The development consisting of 97 new dwellings in a mix of Regency and Contemporary 2 to 4 storey townhouses & 4 to 5 storey apartment buildings with commercial units is set within the heart of the Cheltenham conservation area on a site previously occupied by an art deco cinema. The scheme comprises a set of perimeter blocks creating a private internal streetscape bounded by terraces of townhouses and larger apartment blocks shielding the site from main roads.
Due to the prominence of the site within the conservation area, Cheltenham Borough Council were particularly keen to see a scheme which was authentically Regency in its detailing, finishes and materials, all of which was modelled in-house by the team for submission to the planners and the fabricators. The scheme at the northern end of the site had a more contemporary aesthetic being partially detached from the main development by a terrace of existing houses.
A simple palette of high quality materials combined with Regency details and features gave the scheme an uncluttered look that sympathetically blends with the environment.
