Upper Longcross
Crisp, classic proportions define these two new apartments blocks producing connections through the former Longcross studios site, now home to a new development with our long-standing client, Crest Nicholson.
We were appointed to deliver and realise the intent of the urban infill scheme in providing 78 new homes and associated public realm. Each building sits atop a strong pediment, giving the two buildings a commanding street presence framing this portion of the site.
The buildings both feature semi-submerged private parking and are capped with two large penthouse apartments, which create a sense of drama and offer beautiful views over the adjacent lake and natively planted green spaces.
Well considered detailing is expressed with a neutral material palette, allowing feature elements such as the curved glass balconies to be the hero in the façade treatment.
The development frames a central route and is surrounded with biodiverse planting to encourage the growth of an ecological habitat, supporting a variety of plants, birds and invertebrates within this new urban environment.
The buildings key drivers were to create a simple yet effective selection of materials and details which will give the buildings its high-quality finish and a gentle nod to its art-deco inspiration.
Cream bricks are balanced with a dark grey brick forming contrast between the windows, a purposeful stone cill creates a subtle delineation from the brickwork and creates a strong articulation along the facade.
The large terrace to the penthouse dwellings cap the building and helps manage the buildings level change as it ascends the terrain. Continuous, seamless glazing offers residents amazing views over the surrounding area.
