Contemporary rural living

St Thomas Mead

At Bedhampton, Hampshire, we have crafted a small but spacious rural development complete with family housing, set against the backdrop of open space.

As part of our ongoing relationship with developer, Bargate homes, we successfully planned and delivered this 50 plot scheme. St Thomas Mead forms the first of two phases, with the second due to start construction soon.

The site makes use of an insufficiently used greenfield site neighbouring the Old Bedhampton conservation area. A new community green at the heart of the development facilitates passive surveillance and reinforces the rural identity, helping to foster an atmosphere of safety and belonging in which a new community can grow.

The new homes have been designed to create active street frontages shaping a lively journey through the development, culminating in its village green at the heart.

The use of timber boarding and rich brick textures adds to the character of the area, enhancing the rural feel whilst respecting the adjacent conservation area.

The revival of brick craftsmanship through corbeling, creaser tiles, herringbone brick patterns and buttress walls intertwines the traditional with the contemporary home.

The combination of creating long term value and purposeful placemaking, across a mixture of building typologies, enables this development to be a high quality and desirable place to live for all.

Single storey bungalows provide a more accessible living style and enjoy direct access to the public realm to enable all to feel equally part of the community.
