Based on our vast retail experience, HGP were appointed by British Steel Pension Fund to redevelop Westlands Industrial Estate, the former home to the Westland helicopter factory.
The regeneration of the site was subject to a planning appeal and a hard-fought public enquiry where with HGP’s support the initial planning refusal was overturned.
Situated on a highly prominent site, HGP created a landmark store that addresses and enhances the street scene. The 87,000ft2 scheme, rated BREEAM very good, is configured as a store on stilts design above parking for 420 cars. It includes a Petrol Filling Station and forms the first redevelopment phase of this mixed-use development with 47,500ft2 industrial units behind the store.
Following planning we were appointed by BAM Construction as their Design & Build Architects working in conjunction with the British Steel Pension Fund as the Developer and Asda as the tenant through to successful completion.
HGP have also been appointed by British Steel Pension Fund to submit a new detailed planning application and detailed design for the remaining industrial units on the site to suit the specific requirements for tenants completing the redevelopment of the entire site.
