The Wessex – Hotel & Apartments
The Wessex hotel & apartments is one of Bournemouths latest additions to its skyline. We delivered 88 new homes and 100 hotel spaces.
Based in the distinguishable West cliff region of the city, the scheme is spread out over 3 blocks, 2x residential blocks and 1x hotel block complete with private restaurant and underground parking. Each block is 6 storeys tall complimented with projecting bays and deep inset balconies, the top floor of each block is set in in keeping with the surrounding garden villa typology distinct to the West Cliff area.
Simple geometric bays with inset and projecting balconies complete the buildings distinctive form. Taller ground & first floors give the building a strong pediment, from this the upper floors begin a gradually reducing window height complete with room-in-roof top floor to create a more sensitive approach at height.
An understated brilliant white render characterises these blocks, giving them a bold, contemporary look complimented by a monochromatic palette of black railings and windows. Reflected in the light, the buildings give off a confident presence and contrast with green vegetation.
Surrounded by large open space and planting, the residents are gifted with excellent amenity to play, relax and enjoy their surroundings whilst benefitting from the privacy of being set away from the main road.
The third hotel block is distinct from its neighbouring residential blocks, offering larger projecting balconies and more refined window sequencing, clearly delineating it from its neighbouring residential counterparts.
