HGP University Student wins Community Design to Build Competition

One of HGP's summer placement students, Richard Williams, and his team from Portsmouth University have won a community design competition called the 'Odd Triangle'.

They were tasked to design a temporary structure on the corner of Winston Churchill Avenue and Guildhall Walk in Portsmouth and worked alongside members of the local Brook Club to create a structure to engage with the community.

Their brief was quite restricted and they were limited to a timber structure. To be more interactive and inventive with their design, clay tiles were incorporated so that the local school children / public could make and insert into slots in the structure to add individual creativity to the community structure. To make it more fun they designed a swinging seat and a heart shaped opening so it could become a backdrop for photos/selfies, which would help generate a social media following.

Judging took place on 14/03/16 and they were awarded 1st prize! Their aim is to promote the project online with social media using the following #IHeartPompey to get more of the public involved and promote the companies who have been involved.
